Mrs. John W. Shanks died at her home on E. Main St at half past 8 on Sun eve. She has been in poor health for many years but acute illness lasted but a few days. Funeral services on Wednesday morning at the Meth. church in charge of Rev. Victor Keiser who came for the purpose form Williams Bay, Wisc. The pall bearers were: CR Hostetter; Elmer Reiter; Oris Reiter; Elby Emmert; Orlando Swany and AR Hunsicker. Flowers by members of the Women's Bible class to which Mrs. Shanks had belonged: Mrs. Hostetler; Mrs. McMains; Mrs. Zachary; Mrs Parke White; Mrs Elmer Reiter and Mrs CW Spencer. Paul McCMains with Mrs Lowell Spencera thte piano, sang a Song Prayer"Dear Lord & Father of Mankind"and "His Eye is on the Sparrow. The Priscilla Circle attended in a body. Burial in Maple Ridge. Lydia Catherine, wife of John W. Shanks, was the daughter of John & Sarah Ragsdale. She was b. on the Ragsdale Homestead E. of Russellville Oct 22, 1866. She grew up on the farm, attending the Russellville school. In early girlhood she joined the Russellville Methodist Church and led a consistent & exemplary Christian life. On June 1, 1890 she was married to John W. Shanks, who survives with one dau, Mrs. Hubert Smith of Hammonton, NJ and 3 sons; Joseph of Thorntown; John of Mace and Frank of Waveland; 7 grandchildren and two brothers, John & Joseph Ragsdale of Lyford. Her death occurred Dec 11. A year ago on Dec 12 the family circle was broken for the first time by the death of the older daughter, Frances. Mrs. S. was a singularly devoted wife and mother and she was rewarded by the unfailing and considerate affection of her family. The community will miss one who was always a good neighbor and instant in help in case of need. She enjoyed her church relationship and her connection with the Dept Club & Rebekah Lodge. Although subject to poor health and never caused her to lose her naturally cheerful disposition. - kbz
